Former SDNY Assistant US Attorney Ryan Poscablo Joins Steptoe in New York

Steptoe & Johnson LLP is pleased to announce that Ryan Poscablo, a former federal prosecutor in the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), has joined the firm’s Investigations & White-Collar Criminal Defense practice as a partner. Based in the New York office, Poscablo will focus his practice primarily on government investigations of corporations and individuals as well as internal investigations. Most recently, Poscablo practiced out of the New York office of Riley Safer Holmes & Cancila LLP.

Phil West, chair of Steptoe, commented: “Ryan is a talented trial lawyer. He won every criminal case he prosecuted, and has continued that success as a defense lawyer. Ryan’s trial and investigations experience has helped many clients, and we’re fortunate to add him to our global cross-border investigations and white-collar defense practice in the US, Europe, and Asia, which includes former federal prosecutors from DC, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.”

Poscablo has represented companies and individuals before the US Department of Justice, various state attorneys general, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in cases involving securities and commodities fraud, cryptocurrencies, criminal antitrust, corporate embezzlement and theft, Medicare fraud and anti-kickback, bid-rigging, and public corruption. He has defended Fortune 500 companies in national class action litigations and represents colleges and universities in Title IX litigation. Using trauma-informed investigative techniques, he serves as an investigator for educational institutions, private companies, and public entities in misconduct investigations.

As an assistant US attorney in the SDNY from 2009-2015, Poscablo was undefeated in each of the dozen significant criminal trials that he led. He also conducted numerous fraud investigations that charged bank, wire, mortgage, and tax fraud, as well as identity theft, Medicare and healthcare fraud, and money laundering. In addition, he led multi-defendant investigations that resulted in convictions for racketeering, terrorism, and violent crime.

Poscablo commented: “Steptoe has long carried a global reputation for having a stellar white-collar practice and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be joining the team. The firm’s white-collar brand, roster of formidable talent, and national and international reach, will provide me with a stronger platform to grow my practice.”
