Venable LLP, an American Lawyer Global 100 firm, and Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto, one of the world’s leading intellectual property firms, have reached an agreement for Fitzpatrick to join Venable. The deal is expected to close November 1.
With the addition of the Fitzpatrick practice, the firm will have approximately 800 attorneys, focused on business, government, litigation and intellectual property disciplines, and approximately 700 other professionals and staff. The firm will have about 175 IP lawyers – making it one of the largest IP groups in the country. This agreement will increase the size of Venable’s New York City presence to more than 160 lawyers, placing it among the largest firms in the city.
Stu Ingis, chairman of Venable, said: “We are very pleased to welcome such an elite group of lawyers with a long-standing and sophisticated client base. Fitzpatrick has been one of the top IP firms in the country for nearly 50 years. Its attorneys will be an excellent fit with the existing Venable IP practice and will also benefit our client base requiring broader IP support. Most importantly, they share our firm’s values, our respect for each other and our commitment to clients.”
Dominick Conde, chair of Fitzpatrick’s Management Committee, said: “Both firms share a deep dedication to our clients. We have been privileged to work with many of the world’s leading companies creating solutions for their IP challenges for decades. While we have been incredibly successful on our own, this deal creates a synergy that we couldn’t pass up. As a result, the firm will be able to extend its dedication to clients to more areas and is an excellent fit of people and practices of two outstanding firms.”
