Edward E. Filusch Joins Allen Matkins, Expanding New York Litigation Practice

Allen Matkins today announced that Edward E. Filusch has joined the firm’s Litigation Practice as a partner in its New York office. A seasoned commercial litigator, Ed represents public and private companies, investment firms, partnerships, and individuals in complex disputes in state and federal courts and arbitration proceedings. Filusch joins Allen Matkins from Kasowitz LLP.

Ed’s practice spans high-stakes matters involving financial services, structured products, real estate, insurance, and manufacturing. He has substantial experience litigating complex commercial and financial disputes, including claims involving contracts, fraud, fiduciary duties, representations and warranties, and other business issues.

His representative experience includes serving on teams handling significant residential mortgage-backed securities litigation, disputes involving breaches of contracts and fraud, and business litigation arising from long-term manufacturing and technology relationships. He has represented clients through trial, dispositive motions, appeals, and arbitration.

Ed has been recognized by Benchmark Litigation as a Litigation Star and as a member of its 40 & Under Hot List, by Lawdragon as a Leading Litigator in America and a Leading Plaintiff Financial Lawyer in America, and by
Super Lawyers as a Rising Star.

“Ed is exactly the kind of lawyer we want to continue adding to our platform — sophisticated, entrepreneurial, and deeply focused on his clients,” said Jeffrey Patterson, Managing Partner of Allen Matkins. “His experience in complex financial and real estate-related disputes complements areas where we already have significant strength and deep client relationships. His arrival is another important step in building a New York presence that is connected to the full capabilities of the firm and responsive to our clients’ needs.”

“Ed has built an impressive practice at the intersection of complex commercial litigation, financial services, and real estate,” said Scott Leipzig, Chair of Allen Matkins’ Litigation Practice. “He knows how to distill complicated financial and real estate-related disputes into clear, persuasive strategies for clients. That combination will be a tremendous asset to our clients and our team.”

“Allen Matkins has a distinctive combination of entrepreneurial energy, deep industry knowledge, and a genuinely collaborative culture,” said Filusch. “I’m excited to join a team that is ambitious about growing in New York while staying focused on the best results for clients. The opportunity to help shape that next chapter was especially compelling to me.”

Since entering the New York market in 2023, Allen Matkins has continued to build its presence around its clients’ needs, adding talent and capabilities that complement the firm’s nationally recognized real estate platform and expanding its work across litigation, construction, and corporate matters. The New York office also supports the firm’s growing work in sectors, such as financial services, investment management, and data centers. Ed’s arrival follows the recent addition of veteran trial lawyer Ron Rossi and further deepens the firm’s complex commercial litigation capabilities in New York, creating additional opportunities to serve clients across practices and markets.

Ed received his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center and his B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Boston College.

Earlier in his career, he clerked for the Honorable Brian M. Cogan of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
