DLA Piper Adds Prominent Employment Law Practice in New York

DLA Piper announced today that Eric Wallach, Brian Kaplan, Joseph Piesco and Daniel Turinsky have joined the firm’s Employment practice as partners in New York.

The group has broad experience successfully defending litigation in federal and state courts, as well as in arbitration, in addition to counseling and litigation prevention; internal compliance audits and anti-harassment training; and negotiation and drafting of employment, consulting and severance agreements. They also represent employers, corporate boards and special committees in internal investigations of alleged officer, employee and director misconduct, and executive employees to defend their actions before law enforcement and regulatory agencies. They work with a wide range of clients in sectors that include banking, investment management and other financial services; apparel and retail; media and entertainment; advertising and marketing; and manufacturing and industrial.

Wallach, Kaplan, Piesco and Turinsky join DLA Piper from Kasowitz Benson Torres & Friedman LLP.

Eric Wallach chaired Kasowitz’s Employment Practices and Litigation Practice, which included 20 partners, counsel and associates. His areas of experience include actions seeking injunctive relief to protect against theft of trade secrets, misappropriation of confidential information, breach of fiduciary duty and unfair competition; enforcement of non-competition and non-solicitation agreements; and defense of employment discrimination lawsuits in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies. Wallach has also served as a party-designated arbitrator in several proceedings conducted under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce. Ranked in Chambers USA as a leader in Labor and Employment in New York and Legal 500 2014 as a leading litigator in the “Litigation: Trade Secrets” category, he has also been named one of the country’s 100 Most Powerful Employment Attorneys by Human Resource Executive. In addition, he has been listed in New York Super Lawyers and has been recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in America. Wallach received a J.D. from Harvard Law School and an A.B. from Harvard University.

Brian Kaplan has more than two decades of experience representing employers and prominent senior executives in all aspects of employment-related litigation before federal and state courts, administrative agencies and arbitration panels. His litigation experience includes defense of claims of discrimination, retaliation and harassment; disputes involving the enforcement of employment contracts and non-competition covenants; and tort claims such as fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, tortious interference and defamation. Kaplan also advises clients on a broad variety of subjects, including: terminations and other disciplinary actions; employment, consulting and separation agreements; investigations of alleged harassment and other employee misconduct; employment policies and practices; and litigation avoidance. He has been named to Best Lawyers in America and New York Super Lawyers. Kaplan received a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Joseph Piesco represents employers in litigation before federal and state courts, administrative agencies and arbitration panels. He also conducts training on issues, including: separation agreements, terminations and other disciplinary actions; reductions-in-force; employment policies and practices; wage and hour auditing; Title I and Title III ADA compliance and audits; anti-harassment and workplace diversity; and workplace violence. Piesco also has a longstanding management-side traditional labor law practice, with an emphasis on real estate development, mergers and acquisitions in the hospitality industry, and he represents clients in connection with collective bargaining negotiations, strikes and union arbitrations. Piesco received a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and a B.A. from Binghamton University.

Daniel Turinsky represents clients in disputes involving the enforcement of employment contracts and non-competition covenants, and tort claims such as fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, tortious interference and defamation. Turinsky also advises clients on disciplinary actions and terminations; employment, consulting and separation agreements; employment policies and practices; reductions-in-force; and litigation avoidance. He received a J.D. from The George Washington University and a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.
