Dentons Continues Corporate Team Growth With Addition of Eric Cowan

Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, announced today that prominent lawyer Eric W. Cowan joined its Corporate practice as a partner. Cowan focuses his practice on representing companies, boards of directors and special committees on complex financial transactions and in sophisticated cross-border and M&A transactions.

Cowan represents clients in a broad range of sectors including insurance, financial services, media, communications and technology. Among his recent transactions are first of their kind highly strategic transactions, including advising on a transaction that consisted of the underwriting of up to US$6 billion of financial risk for one of the world’s largest publicly traded insurance companies, and guiding a major non-US broadcaster through the acquisition and disposition of television production and new media companies, alternative viewing platforms, technology companies, and negotiating complicated licensing and distribution agreements, including multiplatform arrangements. He also recently represented a consortium of lenders in the US$700 million financing of an alternative energy company.

“Eric’s expertise in highly-sophisticated transactions, and his focus on innovative technologies, aligns with our diverse clients across media, finance and insurance,” said US CEO Mike McNamara. “Eric’s practice is a great fit with ours, and our mutual focus on international deals will benefit our clients.”

Cowan has spent his career in private practice, leading offices or key global practice areas in large law firms.
