Cooley Boosts Securities Litigation Practice in New York

Aric Wu has joined Cooley’s securities litigation practice as a partner in its New York office. Wu spent more than two decades at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and will continue to focus on securities litigation, corporate control contests, and other complex litigation at Cooley.

“Aric is exceptionally talented, and his arrival bolsters our East Coast securities litigation team and enhances the depth and talent of our litigation practice,” said Patrick Gibbs, head of Cooley’s securities litigation group. “His track record of successfully defending against securities class actions, coupled with his background in activist shareholder and takeover disputes, will greatly benefit our clients across all markets, and we are thrilled to welcome him.”

Wu has significant experience representing clients across a variety of industries in securities class actions, shareholder derivative litigation, mergers and acquisition battles, and SEC investigations and enforcement proceedings. He has been recognized as a top securities litigator by Law360 and The Legal 500 and was honored by Crain’s New York Business as one of its 40 Under 40: New York’s New Generation of Leaders in 2012. Wu earned his JD, with distinction as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, from Columbia Law School.

“Cooley is on an exciting trajectory. I look forward to joining an already powerful team and playing a key role in building out its securities litigation platform on the East Coast,” said Wu. “The firm’s substantial corporate work and history of advising clients at every stage of their life cycle complements my practice, as does its commitment to its collaborative culture.”

With 65+ trial lawyers focused on securities litigation, including many former federal and state prosecutors, Cooley’s securities litigation practice is one of the most active in the US for the defense of issuers in shareholder litigation. It forms part of Cooley’s growing litigation department, which continues to add significant bench strength in New York, Washington, DC, and internationally. The American Lawyer has recognized Cooley among the preeminent global litigation departments, giving the firm an honorable mention in its biannual Litigation Department of the Year publication and naming it a finalist for California Regional Litigation Department of the Year. Other publications have also lauded the rise of Cooley’s global litigation practice, including BTI Consulting Group, The Lawyer and Law360.
