Baker Botts Welcomes Leading Aviation Finance Partner in New York

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international technology, energy and life sciences law firm, announced today that Jonathan Goldstein has joined its New York office as a partner in the Finance Section of the Corporate Department. Goldstein joins Baker Botts from Hughes Hubbard & Reed in New York, where he was a partner in the Aviation Finance Group.

Goldstein is recognized as a leading lawyer whose practice focuses on a range of financing structures and active participants in the global aviation and transportation finance sector. He represents airlines, leasing companies, underwriters, banks, private equity firms and trustees in a wide variety of transactions, including asset-backed securitizations; offerings of enhanced equipment trust certificates; sale and lease transactions; and structured notes and secured loans. He also has experience in secured and unsecured notes offerings, leveraged finance and creating innovative “structured finance” vehicles.

Goldstein’s arrival at Baker Botts comes on the heels of that of Avner Bengera, who joined the firm’s New York office on April 1 to serve as Co-Head of Cross-Border Mergers & Acquisitions.

“Jonathan is a leading aviation finance lawyer who provides an ideal fit in an area of steady demand for us,” said John Martin, Managing Partner of Baker Botts. “His arrival continues our strategic growth trajectory in New York, one of our key markets, and we are excited to welcome him to the firm.”

“A number of our clients rely heavily on the firm to provide aviation finance capabilities, and Jonathan’s deep experience in this area speaks for itself,” said Mike Bengtson, Corporate Department Chair of Baker Botts. “He will also expand our transportation and structured finance capabilities and add additional bench strength to our Finance team firmwide.”

Transactions that Goldstein lead have won several awards. He most recently led teams recognized for “North American Deal of the Year” by AirFinance Journal in 2019 and “Overall Debt Deal of the Year” by Airline Economics in 2018. In addition, he has been recognized by The Legal 500 U.S. in Structured Finance and as a “Leading Lawyer” and “Rising Star” by Airfinance Journal and IFLR 1000. He earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 2003 and his B.S. from the University of Delaware in 1996.

“I look forward to being part of a firm that does such outstanding and sophisticated work, and look forward to working with Baker Botts’ existing clients and expanding its overall aviation and structured finance offering capability,” Goldstein said.

The Baker Botts Finance team, which includes lawyers in the American College of Investment Counsel and those who are recognized in multiple peer-based and client-based listings, represents financial institutions, corporate borrowers, securities issuers and other participants in complex debt financings and liability management transactions.
