Katten Brings on New Financial Services Partner Darius J. Goldman

Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP today announced that attorney Darius J. Goldman has joined the firm as a partner in the Financial Services Practice.

“Darius is a very conscientious, business-minded young attorney who will be an asset to our already strong financial services team,“ said Katten’s National Managing Partner, Vincent A. F. Sergi.

Goldman represents commercial banks, investment banks and hedge funds in their purchase or sale of trade claims, private securities, bank debt and other investments in domestic and international companies undergoing financial distress. Recent significant matters include MF Global, American Airlines Inc., Eastman Kodak, Bernard L. Madoff (feeder funds and direct investor claims) and Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.

He provides transactional guidance to clients that originate, restructure and trade distressed assets in both domestic and foreign proceedings. In the context of the bankruptcy filings of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. and its debtor affiliates, Goldman continues to advise a number of financial institutions in connection with the settlement of their claims against various debtor entities and has developed a proven auction process for the rapid monetization of recognized claims.

Goldman, who counsels clients on mechanisms to manage credit risk exposure to their trading counterparties, has personally negotiated and settled hundreds of transactions for the transfer of secured, administrative expense, general unsecured claims and customer claims. He also advises clients with respect to OTC swaps and derivatives transactions and negotiates ISDA Master Agreements and credit support documents for financial institutions, dealers, asset managers and end-users.

“Darius is a talented legal advisor and skilled negotiator who leaves no stone unturned in achieving the desired outcomes of his clients. We very much look forward to working with him,” said Noah Heller, who leads Katten’s New York Transactional Practices, which include the Financial Services, Structured Finance and Securitization, Commercial Finance, Public Finance and Corporate Practices.

Katten’s Financial Services Practice advises a broad range of participants in the financial services arena, including broker-dealers, futures commission merchants, investment advisors, finance companies, investment bankers, futures and securities exchanges, commodity trading advisors, pension funds, banks and insurance companies, as well as investment vehicles such as hedge funds, commodity pools, venture capital funds and private equity funds, securitization vehicles, mutual funds and bank collective investment funds. Katten attorneys are well-versed in the latest developments in the industry, and several have previously held senior positions with regulatory agencies or have been in-house counsel at financial services firms.
