Andrew J. Green Joins Kelley Drye as Partner in Real Estate Practice

Kelley Drye & Warren LLP is pleased to announce that Andrew J. Green, a real estate attorney, has joined the firm as a partner, resident in the New York office.  Mr. Green was previously a partner at Rosenman & Colin LLP (now the firm of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP), then partner and of counsel at Jones Day.

Mr. Green has extensive experience in real estate law, including securitized, syndicated and construction lending; acquisitions and dispositions; sale-leaseback transactions; restructurings and workouts; and net, office, retail and build-to-suit leasing.

He has represented several of the largest U.S. banks ranked by assets and other leading financial institutions, owners, developers, and corporate facilities groups, and has represented landlords and tenants in some of the largest office leases in New York, including multiple Manhattan and New York metropolitan area office leases in excess of one million square feet.  He is also a leading practitioner in workouts and restructurings.

Mr. Green was lead counsel to a major bank in a series of nationwide portfolio sale-leaseback transactions involving over 100 properties, containing more than 19 million square feet.  He served as lead counsel to a leading syndicate of the three largest U.S.banks in a transaction designated “Deal of the Year” by Real Estate Investment & Finance.  The $1 billion plus transaction at the time was the largest single-asset real estate transaction in New York history.

Mr. Green was also lead real estate counsel to the acquiring bank in its acquisition of Washington Mutual from the FDIC, the largest transaction of its kind, which involved more than 3,200 leased and owned properties.

“Andy brings extensive experience, working with leading financial institutions in highly complex transactions,” said Robert D. Bickford, Jr., chair of Kelley Drye’s real estate practice group.  “His practice fits in well with our existing clients, enhancing our in-depth services for a wide array of deals, in the fast-paced demands of the New York real estate world.”

“I am looking forward to joining Kelley Drye’s highly regarded and talented real estate transactional team,” said Mr. Green.  “The expertise and experience of the firm’s nationally known lawyers in the financial institutions, bankruptcy, corporate and litigation practices will also benefit my clients, and this was a factor in my choosing Kelley Drye.”

Mr. Green received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.  He received his B.A. with Honors from Columbia University.

Mr. Green was the former chair of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York’s Subcommittee on New York office leasing.  He has also guest lectured at multiple real estate programs.
