Polsinelli Shughart New York Adds Trio of Intellectual Property Litigators to Enhance Pharmaceutical Patent Practice

Citing a need to expand services to the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, Polsinelli Shughart welcomes three highly experienced intellectual property shareholders in New York. Tedd W. Van Buskirk, Dr. Pamela Fekete, and Dillon Kim bring more than 35 years combined experience in patent and trademark matters. The trio, who practiced together previously, focuses predominantly on patent litigation arising under the Hatch-Waxman Act and related regulatory, antitrust, and ANDA counseling work. Their clients include pharmaceutical, medical device, biotech, and other life sciences companies.

“Tedd, Pamela, and Dillon bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in Hatch-Waxman litigation, which is a highly technical and complex practice area that has become one of our group’s focal points,” said Keith J. Grady, chair of the Intellectual Property and Technology Litigation Practice. “They provide a strong New York presence and increased capabilities to better serve our clients, both existing and new. We’re very happy to have them onboard.”

Van Buskirk’s practice focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, trade secret, unfair competition, and related antitrust issues, with an emphasis on pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Van Buskirk is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent Trademark Office. He earned his law degree from New York Law School and his undergraduate degree from Rutgers.

Dr. Fekete comes to the firm having worked both in-house and in private practice. Her practice focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation, patent prosecution, life cycle management, licensing and transactions, with a strong emphasis on pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices. Dr. Fekete is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent Trademark Office. She earned her law degree from Cardozo, an M.D. from University of Medicine and Health Sciences, St. Kitts, an M.S. in Biology from Southern Connecticut State University, and a B.S. in Biology from University of New Haven.

Dillon Kim’s practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, life cycle management, and regulatory counseling for clients in the life sciences. Kim is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent Trademark Office. He earned his law degree from Georgetown, an M.P.H. from Yale, and a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Environmental Science Policy from Duke University.

In March, the New York office of Polsinelli Shughart located to Third Avenue and 50th Street in anticipation of growth in financial services, real estate, and intellectual property. Last year, The National Law Journal ranked Polsinelli Shughart the third fastest growing law firm in the country. The Intellectual Property and Technology Litigation Practice includes attorneys in Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, New York, and St. Louis.

“We were drawn to the entrepreneurial spirit, deep resources, and culture of Polsinelli Shughart,” said Van Buskirk. “For us, it was a chance to practice together again while collaborating with a premiere national intellectual property practice and developing relationships with attorneys and clients coast to coast.”
