DLA Piper Continues Expansion of Corporate and Insurance Practices with Addition of David Luce in New York

DLA Piper announced today that David Luce has joined the firm’s Corporate and Finance practice and Insurance and Reinsurance Sector practice as a partner in New York.

Formerly a Director in the Fixed Income Division of Credit Suisse, Luce has a wide range of transactional experience, particularly in the insurance industry. He regularly handles insurance-related capital markets and reinsurance transactions, and has a wide range of regulatory experience in both general insurance matters, M&A and securities transactions.

“David will play a key role as we continue to expand our insurance and reinsurance platform around the world,” said Michael P. Murphy, global chair of DLA Piper’s Insurance and Reinsurance Sector group. “As an accomplished insurance solutions provider both as a lawyer and investment banker, he also brings important synergies that will enhance our ability to serve our clients across the banking, finance, capital markets, private equity and fund formation sectors.”

“David’s choice of DLA Piper for his return to private practice is a testament to the firm’s strategic goal of retaining and developing exceptional talent in critically important global insurance centers,” said William Marcoux, head of DLA Piper’s Insurance Transactions and Regulation group. “He is a high-quality corporate and finance lawyer with a wide array of experience in M&A, securities offerings and structured finance and will be an important strategic enhancement to our existing transactional and regulatory capabilities.”

Prior to Credit Suisse, Luce served as Special Counsel in the Financial Institutions Group of Sullivan & Cromwell, where he specialized in insurance transactions and regulatory matters. He was formerly a Vice President at Barclays Capital and Lehman Brothers, where he worked in the Insurance Products Group of the Fixed Income Division, specializing in innovative client-focused capital needs solutions in the insurance industry. He began his legal career as an associate at Debevoise & Plimpton, where he specialized in insurance industry M&A. Proficient in Japanese, Luce received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and his B.A. in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia.

Luce’s addition to DLA Piper follows other notable arrivals to the firm’s Insurance and Reinsurance Sector group, including Paul Chen (Silicon Valley and NYC); Peter Rice (Boston and NYC); and Prakash Paran, Roger Loo and Melanie James (London); and a group of lawyers led by Joyce Chan and Heng Loong Cheong who will join the firm in Hong Kong.
