Hogan Lovells Welcomes Leading Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits Lawyer Martha N. Steinman to New York Office

Hogan Lovells announced today that Martha N. Steinman has joined the firm as a partner in its New York office. Steinman has extensive experience in executive compensation, employee benefits, qualified and non-qualified plans, and welfare plans. Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Steinman was a partner and co-chair of the Global Compensation, Benefits and Employment Department of Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP.

“With her practice focusing on a wide range of sophisticated executive compensation matters for both public and private companies, Martha Steinman’s addition significantly enhances our corporate and transactional practice, as well as our securities disclosure practice,” said Stuart Stein, Global Co-Head of Hogan Lovells’ Corporate Practice Group.

“Martha’s role as a close and trusted advisor to corporate management and boards of directors and her leading reputation among securities practitioners make her an excellent complement to our global tax practice,” said Cristina Arumi, Global Head of Hogan Lovells’ Tax practice, which comprises over 110 lawyers and accountants located in the United States, Latin America, Asia, and in eight European jurisdictions and offers standalone tax planning, consulting services, and transactional tax advice.

Steinman advises clients on the design and implementation of executive compensation arrangements, including equity compensation, and employee benefit plans, with an emphasis on tax and securities law considerations. She also works with clients to address compensation and benefit issues in the context of mergers and acquisitions. She also counsels clients regarding the use of captives to reinsure employee benefit arrangements and in securing exemptions from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Steinman has significant experience in advising publicly held companies and their boards of directors on the impact of the Dodd-Frank Act, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and corporate governance issues, on their executive compensation and other employee benefit arrangements. Additionally, she works with clients to negotiate employment and severance agreements, design compensation packages, and on retirement planning issues.

“With the steady expansion of its corporate practice in New York and its global reach, Hogan Lovells is the ideal platform from which I can advise clients on a broad spectrum of executive compensation and employee benefit issues,” said Steinman.

With the addition of Steinman, Hogan Lovells’ New York office has welcomed five new corporate and finance partners in 2012, including Francis R. Monaco, Peter Humphreys, Robert Koster, and Peter Ivanick. These additions follow an announcement in November 2011 that Hogan Lovells added three of its leading corporate partners to the New York office: M&A partner William J. Curtin III, an American Lawyer Dealmaker of the Year; senior corporate securities partner Michael J. Silver, a member of Hogan Lovells’ Global Board; and Jeffrey M. Hurlburt, Co-Head of the global Private Equity and Venture Capital practice.
