Fox Rothschild Bolsters Entertainment Practice with New York Addition

Strengthening the East Coast foothold of its coast to coast Entertainment Practice, Fox Rothschild LLP has welcomed partners Tim Mandelbaum, Michael L. Reinert and Monika A. Tashman to its New York office.

While the firm’s Entertainment Practice is national in scope, the new additions in Manhattan complement the East Coast presence of practice co-chair Lori Landew and offer service synergy with Los Angeles-based practice co-chair Darrell D. Miller. The group’s addition will expand service offerings to the firm’s diverse range of entertainment industry clients, which include recording and film studios, agents and artists, digital media companies and professional athletes.
Specifically, Mandelbaum provides strategic career and business guidance to a variety of talent and corporate clients in film, television, new media, literature and sports. Prior to joining Fox, Mandelbaum held his own private practice, Selverne Mandelbaum and Mintz, LLP, for 16 years and also served as Head of Business and Legal Affairs for EMI Records. He is recognized for his talents as a pro-active deal broker on behalf of his clients and serves them in all legal-related facets of their careers and businesses. As an experienced intellectual property and entertainment attorney, Mandelbaum regularly negotiates contracts and handles intellectual property matters regarding copyrights, trademarks and other branding tools for his clients. He is a frequent guest lecturer on issues pertaining to the changes confronting the entertainment industry. Mandelbaum serves on the board of directors and is a member of the legal committee for the Alliance of Artists and Recording Companies, and is also an executive committee member of the Entertainment Law Initiative of National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. He earned his J.D. from University of Denver School of Law in 1983 and his B.A. from Duke University from 1979.
A well-known and respected entertainment executive, Reinert has worked with many platinum-selling artists as a private practitioner and as legal counsel to Atlantic Records, Electra Records, as Vice President of Business Affairs at PolyGram Records, and most recently, as Executive Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs at the Universal Motown Republic Group of UMG Recordings, Inc. His clients benefit from his in-depth experience in drafting and negotiating contracts from both the label and the artist perspectives. His numerous memberships and associations within the industry aid in his ability to provide strategic guidance and create brand longevity for his clients.
Reinert was an adjunct professor of law at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law for 10 years where he taught a class on drafting and negotiating agreements in the music industry. He lectures at various schools and seminars around the country and has been a contributing editor to the Practicing Law Institute volumes on the music industry. He recently finished his term as chairman ofthe Entertainment Law Initiative of the Grammy Foundation and still sits on its board.He also is a member of the Board of Directors of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, an organization that has contributed to ground-breaking results in the treatment of multiple myeloma and other cancers. His involvement in the theatrical community includes sitting on the Artistic Advisory Board of the Naked Angels Theatre Company, a leading non-profit company in New York and Los Angeles. He earned his J.D. from The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1982 and his undergraduate degree from Tulane University in 1979.
Tashman is well-versed in the ins and outs of brand development and takes a holistic approach to her clients’ business and legal affairs. She counsels multi-platform talent, child entertainers and dynamic entrepreneurs in legal and contractual issues, and more importantly, in business and career development, with a focus on strategic career longevity. Working across a variety of media with multi-platform artists, Tashman is well-versed in the complex relationships between her clients’ artistic endeavors and business transactions and always works to protect her clients while advancing their interests.  She acts as pro-active general counsel, advocating and negotiating on her clients’ behalf, while assessing and defending against possible copyright, trademark infringement and contract claims. Her clients include actors, authors, musical artists, producers, directors, writers, entrepreneurs, industry executives and others in the literary, music, theatrical and film and new media industries. She is a frequent panelist on entertainment-related issues and a noted talent finder.
Prior to her legal career, Tashman worked in creative marketing and promotion for the entertainment industry. She is a member of the New York Bar Association, the American Bar Association and on the Advocacy Committee for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Tashman earned her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2000 and her B.S., magna cum laude, from New York University in 1994.
