Thomas E. Butler Joins LeClairRyan

Thomas E. Butler joined the law firm of LeClairRyan as a shareholder in the firm’s Litigation Department. He will be resident in the firm’s Manhattan office at Third Ave. and E. 53rd St.

Butler focuses his practice on complex commercial and related litigation and other forms of dispute resolution. He has had extensive experience handling cases in state and federal courts across the country as well as in a variety of arbitral institutions. Much of his work has been for non-U.S. clients, and he regularly counsels such clients both in connection with litigation pending in the U.S. and in connection with multi-jurisdictional disputes. As such, he has worked in close coordination with counsel in a number of foreign jurisdictions. Butler has also been involved in a number of high-profile products liability disputes. He regularly represents clients in estate and trust-related disputes, including matters of a multi-jurisdictional nature. Butler has handled all phases of dispute resolution, from their preliminary stages through discovery, trial and appeals. 
Prior to joining LeClairRyan, Butler spent 11 years at Chadbourne & Parke LLP, in New York, where he was a partner. 
A graduate of Columbia Law School (J.D.) and the College of the Holy Cross (A.B.), Butler is admitted to practice in New York state and federal courts. He is a member of the Commercial Bar Association of England and is active in the U.S.-India Business Council in which he is a member of the Steering Committee of the Legal Services Section and is the editor-in-chief of the Section’s quarterly newsletter. He has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in the area of business litigation by Law & Politics magazine.
