Brian D. Siff has joined Schiff Hardin LLP’s New York office as a partner in the Intellectual Property Group from Dickstein Shapiro LLP in New York.
Mr. Siff’s practice is focused in all areas of intellectual property law including litigation, licensing, prosecution, and counseling on matters involving patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright and unfair competition law.
His patent litigation practice includes full participation in pretrial and trial matters, formulation of litigation strategies, case management, claim construction (Markman) hearing presentations, motion practice, damages recovery analysis, jury focus group investigation, mediation, settlement negotiations, depositions and all aspects of discovery.
Mr. Siff also has managed the prosecution and maintenance of large patent portfolios, prosecuted patent applications, and drafted noninfringement and invalidity opinions of counsel concerning a variety of products and devices across industries. He has experience with reexamination proceedings before the U.S. Patent Office, and performed due diligence reviews of patent portfolios for venture capital groups.
Additionally, Mr. Siff has extensive experience negotiating and drafting license agreements involving intellectual property. He has developed global patent strategies for companies that coordinate all aspects of litigation, licensing and prosecution. In particular, he has developed a global e-commerce patent strategy for one of the top 50 e-commerce retailers in North America.
Finally, Mr. Siff also represents companies on all aspects of trademark, trade dress, and copyright law. In particular, he has extensive experience monitoring, policing, and enforcing trademark compliance, and has litigated trademark infringement, trade dress infringement, copyright infringement and unfair competition actions.
He graduated from Washington University School of Law (J.D., 1990) and Cornell University (B.S., Mechanical Engineering, 1987).
