Hogan Lovells announced today that it is expanding its Finance practice in New York with the addition of partners Peter Humphreys and Robert Koster.
“This significant addition further deepens our bench and enhances our ability to provide sophisticated finance counsel to clients in the United States and across our global platform,” said Benton Hammond, Co-Leader of Hogan Lovells’ Finance Practice Group. “With the arrival of Peter Humphreys and Robert Koster, we are gaining further momentum in growing our Finance practice in the New York office.”
Humphreys has been recognized as one of the leading structured finance lawyers in the world by Euromoney and is one of the few lawyers to be selected three times to the BTI Consulting Client Service All-Star Team based on a survey of Fortune 1000 corporate counsel. His practice is focused on securitization, including financings of equipment and operating leases, credit card receivables, auto loans, energy receivables, healthcare receivables, intellectual property, and trade receivables.
“With his vast experience involving a wide array of transactions and asset classes in the securitization sector, Peter Humphreys is an ideal addition to our expanding team of Finance lawyers,” said Hammond.
Humphreys also has extensive experience with structured capital transactions for insurance companies and other public and private capital markets transactions. Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, he was a partner in the New York office of McDermott Will & Emery LLP in the firm’s Structured Finance practice.
“Robert Koster’s many years of work in Latin America and his significant capabilities with derivatives are excellent complements to our Structured Finance, Project Finance, Energy, and Corporate practices in New York and globally,” said Hammond.
Koster has more than ten years of high-level experience in the derivatives marketplace and has been involved in the development of many new products. He recently has focused his practice in energy and equity derivatives, and is increasingly involved in Dodd-Frank compliance counseling and derivatives advocacy.
Within the energy sector, Koster has represented power, oil, and energy trading companies in oil, gas, and power derivatives transactions. He also has substantial experience in derivatives and trading related to project finance, as well as experience in the renewable energy sector.
Fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese, Koster has lived and worked throughout Latin America for 20 years. Recently he has been particularly active in Brazil, where his work has included representing Brazilian financial institutions in securities, asset management, and derivative transactions. He also has represented funds and private equity investors in Brazilian transactions.
In addition to his previous experience as outside counsel, Koster has served as in-house counsel at Citibank and UBS Investment Bank. Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, he was a partner with Dewey & LeBoeuf in the firm’s Derivatives and Structured Products and Latin American practices in New York.
