Perkins Coie Opens New York Office

Perkins Coie announced today that it has opened an office in New York City, New York. Former Arent Fox partner, Schuyler G. Carroll, has joined the firm and will be the partner in charge of the office. Carroll focuses his practice on complex restructuring, transactional, litigation and advisory work. His experience adds depth to the firm’s national Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice.

The addition of Carroll and the opening of the New York office allow Perkins to broaden its restructuring practice to include representation of Chapter 11 debtors and creditors’ committees in the Southern District of New York, which is (with Delaware) one of the two busiest business bankruptcy courts in the nation.
“The firm’s commitment to client service and the people are what drew me to Perkins Coie,” Carroll noted. “It is an exceptional law firm and will provide a solid platform for expanding my practice.”
“We have looked at many opportunities to add a New York office, knowing that it would help serve our existing clients,” said Perkins Managing Partner, Bob Giles. “We are convinced that this is the right time and that Schuyler is the right person.”
Carroll has represented a wide variety of debtors, creditor committees, secured and unsecured creditors, bondholders, indenture trustees, trustees, landlords, investors and purchasers in Chapter 11 and 7 bankruptcy proceedings, out of court workouts and non-judicial reorganizations and restructurings. These matters include a wide variety of industries, including financial services, real estate, health care, manufacturing, e-commerce, technology, telecommunication and hospitality.
The addition of Carroll reflects Perkins’ continuing efforts to expand its national presence through strategic acquisitions and lateral hires.
“Adding Schuyler to our firm and opening our New York office brings even greater depth to the services we can provide our clients,” said Al Smith, co-chair of the firm’s Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice group.
Carroll joins a Bankruptcy & Restructuring group of nearly 30 attorneys that represents debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, court-appointed trustees and creditors’ committees. The firm also represents federally insured financial institutions, commercial mortgage-backed securities special servicers, pension fund administrators, asset-based lenders, trade creditors and public debt holders. The group advises clients on the entire range of ancillary issues that arise in connection with troubled companies and restructuring transactions.
Perkins offers a broad range of services, including litigation, corporate finance, intellectual property, real estate and labor and employment law. The firm operates from 16 offices in the United States and offers international capability through its offices in Beijing and Shanghai.
The firm has been recognized for its accomplishments in the legal profession, its commitment to diversity and its excellent client service. In January, the firm was recognized by FORTUNE magazine for the ninth consecutive year as being one of the “100 Best Places to Work.” In addition, the firm was recently named as one of the “2010 Top Ten Family Friendly Firms” by Yale Law Women.  For the second consecutive year, the firm was named one of the “Best Law Firms for Women” by Working Mother magazine and national consulting firm Flex-Time Lawyers LLC and also earned the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s top rating of 100 percent in the 2009 and 2010 Corporate Equality Index.  In addition, the firm received the Corporate Partnership Award for Supporting People with Disabilities.
