Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP (HPTY) is pleased to announce that Edward P. Abbot, Mark D. Debrowski, Sara Murphy, Alfred J. Sargente, and Roy F. Viola, Jr., all formerly of Smith Abbot LLP, have joined HPTY as of August 1, 2013.
Abbot and his team add both depth and breadth to HPTY’s Federal and State litigation defense practice, which includes general civil and commercial litigation, employment litigation, product liability, mass/toxic torts, environmental litigation, and insurance defense.
Abbot stated, “I am absolutely thrilled about our coming on board with the very fine lawyers at HPTY and am extremely excited about complementing and contributing to HPTY’s growing national, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania practice. The ‘fit’ of not only the lawyers, but also, and very importantly, the philosophy and vision of HPTY is perfect. My team and I could not be more delighted.”
John Canoni, Partner-in-Charge of HPTY’s New York office stated: “The Abbot group will join an already prolific and thriving group of lawyers in HPTY’s New York City office. The addition further enhances the office’s focus on complex commercial litigation, product liability, business litigation, and labor and employment matters.”
Ed Abbot and his team have extensive litigation experience in mass toxic torts and product liability cases, including acting as national coordination defense and trial counsel in mass toxic tort litigation. Ed serves as liaison and local counsel in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania Federal and State courts, and as counsel in asbestos, lead, industrial machinery, pharmaceutical, and other product cases and is experienced in real estate, business torts and commercial disputes, construction equipment, aviation, and restaurant litigation.
Ron Polly, Managing Partner of HPTY, stated: “We are extremely excited to have such a high quality group of lawyers join our New York City office. Their addition furthers HPTY’s goals for long term growth in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New England. The addition of Ed Abbot’s team has long been a part of HPTY’s strategic vision for expansion in New York, and we are pleased that it has now come to fruition. Not only have we added some terrific lawyers, but a group of great people as well.”
