Goldman Sachs Executive David J. Greenwald Rejoins Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP as Co-Chair

Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP today announced that David J. Greenwald, currently a deputy general counsel and international general counsel at the Goldman Sachs Group, has agreed to rejoin Fried Frank in a leadership role.   Valerie Ford Jacob, the Firm’s current Chairperson, and Mr. Greenwald will serve as Co-Chairs of the Firm through February of 2015. Beginning in March 2015, Mr. Greenwald will lead the Firm as Chairman and Ms. Jacob will become the Firm’s Senior Partner.

At Fried Frank, before joining Goldman, Mr. Greenwald focused on mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions while representing clients such as Goldman Sachs and Forstmann Little. He joined Goldman Sachs’ Legal Department in 1994.  Mr. Greenwald was named managing director in 1998 and partner in 2000.  In addition to his responsibilities within the Legal Department, he co-chaired Goldman Sachs’ Firmwide Suitability Committee, which sets standards for clients and financial products.  He also was a member of and counsel to the Firmwide Client and Business Standards Committee, and counsel to both the European Management Committee and the Growth Markets Operating Committee.

Mr. Greenwald serves on the Dean’s Council of the Columbia University Law School and on the Wharton Executive Board for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.  He is also deputy chairman of the Financial Markets Law Committee in the United Kingdom and has been co-chair of the PLI Annual Institute on Securities Regulation in Europe for the last five years.  He holds a B.S. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated summa cum laude and a J.D. from Columbia University, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
