Raúl Fernández Joins Mayer Brown as Partner in Mexico City

Mexico City, 15 May 2018 – Mayer Brown announced today that Raúl Fernández-Briseño, a leading transactional lawyer with deep experience in infrastructure, M&A, finance and restructuring transactions, has joined the firm as a partner in Mexico City, together with two associates. Mr. Fernández and his team join from the Mexico City office of White & Case.

“The market has reacted enthusiastically to our office in Mexico City, which opened for business a couple of years ago,” said Ariel Ramos, a partner in Mexico City and member of Mayer Brown’s global Banking & Finance and Energy practices. “While our core capabilities in Mexico are in energy, infrastructure and finance, we are seeing a considerable increase in client demand for assistance in all three of those areas, including in matters involving M&A, joint ventures and restructurings. Raúl checks all of those boxes and will substantially enhance our ability to serve clients in the energy and other sectors.”

Mr. Fernández brings impressive experience in M&A transactions and financings, particularly in the telecommunications, aviation and private equity industries. He advises clients on shareholders arrangements, cross-border transactions and corporate disputes. In addition, he has handled complex structured financings and regulatory issues in several industries, including but not limited to telecommunications and transportation, as well as a variety of project-finance matters.

“Mayer Brown has a sterling reputation among different industries, which view the firm as a fantastic resource for solving complex problems and steering clients through sophisticated transactions,” said Mr. Fernández. “In addition, the firm’s global platform and impressive track record in handling cross-border matters will augment my practice and present numerous opportunities to serve our clients.”

Mr. Fernández, who spent nearly 20 years at his former firm, will serve as the head of M&A at Mayer Brown in Mexico City. He holds an LLM from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and has been a commercial law professor at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México for more than a decade.
