Prominent Disputes Attorney Salvador Fonseca González Joins Holland & Knight in Mexico City

Salvador Fonseca González has joined Holland & Knight as a partner to head the firm’s litigation and arbitration practice in Mexico City. He was formerly head of the litigation and arbitration practice in Baker McKenzie’s Mexico City office.

“The timing of Salvador’s arrival couldn’t be more perfect. We have a high demand for litigation and arbitration services and we expect the NAFTA negotiations to bring about more matters of concern for our clients,” said Luis Rubio Barnetche, executive partner of Holland & Knight’s Mexico City office. “Salvador has an excellent reputation and is highly regarded in the Mexican and Latin American market for his legal skills and professionalism. We expect him to make an immediate, positive impact on our disputes practice, which is quite busy working on a myriad of litigation and arbitration matters.”

Mr. Fonseca has more than 22 years of experience representing corporate and individual clients in complex international and domestic arbitration and litigation. He has obtained many favorable rulings in high profile and precedent-setting cases, including matters dealing with international trade and investment. Mr. Fonseca has served as sole arbitrator and chairman of arbitral tribunals in several international and local cases (under the UNCITRAL, ICC, CANACO, CAM and other rules and including a case administered by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague). He is recognized as a leading attorney in his field in the Chambers Latin America and Chambers Global guides.

“Holland & Knight has executed a very smart growth plan in Mexico and I’ve known some of its local practitioners for years,” said Mr. Fonseca. “I look forward to working with my colleagues and leveraging the firm’s Latin America platform to better serve my clients.”

Mr. Fonseca received a law degree from the University of Guadalajara, an LL.M. degree from New York University School of Law, and completed post graduate studies at Universidad Panamericana.

Holland & Knight’s Mexico City office was established in 2013. It now includes 30 attorneys, including seven partners, primarily focused on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, capital markets, REITs, telecommunications, energy, environmental, project finance, litigation, international arbitration and real estate.
