The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Mauricio Llamas, founding partner of EnvironLaw, an environmental boutique law firm, joined the Mexico City Office as partner in the Government Regulation Practice, effective January 21.

“Mauricio’s experience advising Mexican and foreign entities on both regulatory and environmental matters at the international, federal and local levels adds even more depth to two practice areas where we help clients around the world,” said Noel Francisco, head of Jones Day’s Government Regulation Practice. “His active involvement in advising clients in their dealings with federal agencies gives him a unique perspective that will be of great value to the Firm’s clients.”

Mr. Llamas’s practice at EnvironLaw comprised a wide array of environmental law related services, ranging from advice on permits, licenses, and legal compliance to counseling on complex matters dealing with environmental liability, regulatory affairs, sustainability, public policy, and legislative development. His areas of expertise include hazardous waste and materials, non-hazardous wastes, product stewardship, environmental impact, air emissions and climate change, land use and construction, water supply, wastewater discharges, high risk activities, and energy projects. His experience has been invaluable to clients’ developing infrastructure as well as manufacturers and sponsors developing large businesses in Mexico.

“Mauricio joins us in our expanding efforts to provide clients a wide array of services in a maturing and very specialized market. Mauricio brings with him considerable expertise in a very important and developing area of the law in Mexico and Latin America. We look forward to working side-by-side with him,” said Fernando de Ovando, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s Mexico City Office.

Prior to establishing EnvironLaw, Mr. Llamas headed the environment practice at Buchanan Abogados as its directing partner, and worked at the law firm of Santamarina & Steta, as a law clerk and associate in its environmental law practice.
