Orrick Enhances Life Sciences and Tech Capabilities with Partner Gina Marek in Silicon Valley

Orrick today announced the strategic addition of Gina Marek as a partner in the firm’s Technology Transactions Group, based in Silicon Valley. Gina joins the firm from Gunderson Dettmer, where she served as Co-Chair of the Strategic Licensing & Transactions Group. Her arrival follows the recent high-profile additions of New York tech advisor Agatha Kluk and former USPTO Solicitor Farheena Rasheed.

Gina is a recognized leader in advising emerging and high-growth companies on foundational intellectual property matters. Her practice centers on strategic collaborations, joint development arrangements, and high-stakes IPR conveyances, as well as representing investors in venture financings and strategic exits.

With deep expertise at the intersection of life sciences and technology, Gina’s experience spans pharmaceuticals, healthtech, software, hardware, e-commerce, and digital media.

“We’re excited to build out our platform to deliver holistic solutions for the most disruptive companies in life sciences,” said Scott Iyama, Deputy Leader of Orrick’s global Corporate practice. “Gina is a recognized leader in this space, sought after by companies throughout their lifecycle.”

Marek’s appointment reinforces Orrick’s position as a premier global advisor for the technology sector. The firm has been ranked as a top 5 global venture capital firm for eight consecutive years by PitchBook and a top 10 global firm for M&A deal volume in 2025 by LSEG.

“Strategic IP and licensing transactions are essential to helping our company clients scale – now more than ever,” said Sarah Schaedler, leader of Orrick’s Technology Transactions Group. “We so look forward to collaborating with a top talent like Gina as we continue to grow our global technology transaction platform.”

“I’ve spent my career delivering pragmatic legal advice tailored to founders’ needs, and I’m excited to be able to scale that practice on Orrick’s wide-reaching platform,” said Gina Marek. “I’m thrilled to reconnect with many colleagues and join new ones to grow with this team.”
