Dentons Hires Corporate and Mining Law Expert

Dentons has hired well-known corporate and mining law expert John Mollard to join its Corporate team in Melbourne.

John has a particular focus on mergers & acquisitions and foreign direct investment for major projects in the energy and resources sectors in Australia and globally and has worked in a number of major markets including London, Beijing and Singapore.

John’s time spent in China and his fluent Mandarin speaking skills have seen him advise on Chinese outbound investment for over 20 years.

John is also a leading practitioner in mining law and has a special expertise in upstream oil and gas, conventional and unconventional.

Dentons’ Australia CEO, Ian Dardis said that Dentons was delighted to add another legal heavyweight to their growing corporate practice.

“John is a significant hire for the Australia region. A well-regarded lawyer, John brings significant experience in mergers and acquisitions and foreign direct investment that will benefit local and global clients.”

“John’s appointment to the partnership is reflective of Dentons’ strategy to grow the Australia region and follows a number of significant hires across corporate, life sciences, and intellectual property and technology.”

John Mollard said that Dentons’ significant presence in China and the fact that the firm is continuing to grow throughout Asia, with recent combinations in Indonesia and Malaysia, were critical factors in his decision to join the firm.

“Dentons’ global footprint and innovative offerings as part of NextLaw were also compelling, and I’m excited to be joining the team in Melbourne.”
