Willkie Adds Litigation Partner Michael Rome in California

Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP today announced that Michael Rome, a leading investigations attorney and former regulatory and litigation counsel at Google, has joined the Firm as a partner in the Litigation Department and member of the Investigations & Enforcement practice. Michael is based in Willkie’s Los Angeles and San Francisco offices. His practice is focused on government investigations, enforcement and complex commercial litigation with a particular emphasis on privacy and consumer protection matters.

“We have worked closely with Michael and believe his deep experience in complex privacy, regulatory and litigation matters make him a tremendous asset to our expanding West Coast litigation team,” said Benedict Hur, who serves as managing partner of the San Francisco office with Simona Agnolucci. “His addition further enhances our position as a go-to firm for technology and other industry clients on bet-the-company privacy and litigation matters,” added Simona.

Michael most recently served as Regulatory and Litigation Counsel at Google, where he led responses to government investigations and enforcement actions brought by U.S. and international regulators, and litigated state, federal, and international privacy and data collection cases. Prior to that, he was a litigation partner at Buckley LLP, where his practice focused on government investigations, class actions, and complex commercial disputes involving alleged consumer deception and unfair business practices, among other matters.

Michael commented: “Willkie’s strong California presence, entrepreneurial culture and international litigation platform are a great fit for the next stage of my practice. I look forward to working with my new colleagues in California and beyond to counsel our clients on their most critical privacy, litigation and consumer protection matters.”

Michael’s arrival follows the addition of several significant partner additions to Willkie’s California offices this year, including former Warner Bros. Discovery Chief Privacy Officer Susan Rohol, energy finance attorney Amanda Rosenberg, entertainment transactions attorney Andrew Kramer and white-collar litigators Koren (Kori) Bell and Marina Torres.

Willkie’s Litigation Department includes approximately 250 lawyers worldwide who represent major U.S. and non-U.S. financial services companies, accounting firms, insurance and reinsurance companies and brokers, media companies, and individuals in complex commercial and class-action litigation. The Department has extensive experience conducting internal corporate investigations and internal corporate matters. In addition, the team regularly represents companies and individuals in investigative and enforcement proceedings brought by federal and state regulatory agencies.
