Weil Bolsters West Coast Transactional Team with Addition of Tax Partner Josh McLane

International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP today announced the arrival of transactional tax attorney Josh McLane, who joins the Firm as a partner in Los Angeles. Josh joins Weil from Sheppard, Mullin, Richter and Hampton LLP, where he was a partner in that firm’s tax practice. Earlier in his career, he served as the general counsel and secretary of a publicly traded healthcare REIT.

Josh’s practice focuses on the tax aspects of complex transactions and reorganizations, with an emphasis on private equity, LBO, merger, acquisition and liability management transactions.

“Josh is a first-rate tax attorney with an extensive background advising private fund sponsors and investors in major transactions,” said Weil Executive Partner Barry Wolf. “His skills will provide the perfect complement to our growing team in Los Angeles, and we are really excited to welcome him to the Firm.”

“With our Private Equity team expanding rapidly, we are delighted to welcome Josh to the Firm,” said Paul Wessel, Chairman of Weil’s Tax Department. “His experience as a deal-savvy tax specialist will add significant depth to our team in Los Angeles and to our nationwide capabilities.”

“I was fortunate to work with Josh previously and I greatly value his talent, collaborative team approach and extraordinary commitment to professional excellence and client service,” said Tana Ryan, Managing Partner of Weil’s Los Angeles office who practiced with Josh at another leading international law firm. “He has deep experience advising sponsors on key transactions and will be an invaluable member of our team.”

Josh’s arrival is the latest milestone in the ongoing expansion of Weil’s Los Angeles office, which has now welcomed 10 outstanding lateral partners since opening in July 2024. The new partners are focused in such areas as private equity, tax, executive compensation, intellectual property, white collar and high-stakes litigation, as well as Weil’s growing entertainment, sports & media (ESM) practice. Most recently, renowned litigators Bo Pearl and Adam Fee joined Weil’s L.A. team on September 15.

“I am thrilled to join Weil and the Firm’s preeminent Tax practice during such an exciting period of growth,” said Josh McLane. “Working with Tana again is a privilege, and I’m committed to strengthening the Firm’s ability to provide sophisticated tax counsel to our distinguished clients.”
