Renowned TCPA Expert Joins Squire Patton Boggs

Class action defense lawyer Eric Troutman has joined Squire Patton Boggs as partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice, based in the Los Angeles office.

Nationally recognized in Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) litigation and compliance, Mr. Troutman has served as lead defense counsel in more than 70 national TCPA class actions and has litigated nearly a thousand individual TCPA cases in his role as national strategic litigation counsel for major banks and finance companies. He also helps industry participants build TCPA-compliant processes, policies and systems. Additionally, Mr. Troutman leads defense teams representing banks and other financial services companies in consumer finance litigation matters, as well as advising clients in fraud and bank operations issues.

“While most lawyers tout TCPA experience, Eric has been there from day one. His intricate perspective and deep knowledge enables him to tailor the right litigation strategies for clients as they navigate the shifting regulatory landscape,” said John Burlingame, global co-chair of the Litigation Practice.

“Eric’s arrival plays into our continued investment in strengthening our West Coast litigation capabilities, particularly class-actions. As a well-known and respected authority, Eric will be a valuable asset to our firm and the full suite of services we offer,” said James Hsu, managing partner of the Los Angeles office.

Mr. Troutman has built a reputation for thought leadership. An avid blogger and speaker, he manages the blog TCPAWorld, a break-the-news blog that serves as the internet’s top website devoted to TCPA news and views. Mr. Troutman was selected to advocate for the financial services industry on important TCPA issues before the Federal Communications Commission and co-authored the nation’s only comprehensive practice guide on TCPA defense.

“I am thrilled to be a part of this powerhouse firm that has one of the world’s strongest legal brands,” said Mr. Troutman. “With its sophisticated global platform, and to be among such talented legal minds and political genius, is a dream come true.”
