Perkins Coie Adds Privacy Veteran Dominique Shelton to Los Angeles Office

Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Dominique R. Shelton has joined the firm’s Privacy & Data Security practice as a partner in the Los Angeles office. Dominique will also co-chair a new group at Perkins Coie focused on the complex issues that arise at the intersection AdTech and privacy.

Dominique has more than 25 years of experience which includes defending, counseling and representing companies on privacy, global data security compliance, data breaches and investigations. This includes defending companies under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission, attorney general offices and other regulatory and government authorities. Dominique advises companies on best practices in privacy, cybersecurity, data, mobile, cloud storage, Internet of Things, cyber preparedness and other areas of regulatory compliance. Her clients range from startups to FORTUNE 500 corporations and span various industries, including digital advertising, entertainment, healthcare and telecommunications.

“Dominique is an extraordinary attorney, with the rare ability to combine deep expertise in privacy and data security with business acumen to deliver insightful, pragmatic advice to clients,” said Todd Hinnen, Co-Chair of Perkins Coie’s Privacy & Security group. “Her reputation as an exceptional attorney is matched by her reputation as a colleague and mentor. Adding a partner of her caliber and profile adds breadth, depth and excellence to one of the nation’s strongest privacy practices. We are delighted to welcome her to the firm.”

Dominique has led a number of cyber-preparedness programs and data breach investigations for domestic and international financial institutions, retailers and media companies. After reviewing more than 100 privacy and cybersecurity enforcement actions taken by the Federal Trade Commission, she developed a comprehensive legal assessment for cloud storage, mobile data, cybersecurity and privacy best practices. Dominique’s background includes advising on European, Asian and South American privacy and security compliance projects for U.S.-based and overseas companies. In addition, she counsels on strategies for related legal compliance and vendor management in cross-border transfers.

“Dominique is a natural leader and is held in the highest regard in the national privacy bar and she is well-known for her privacy counsel and client successes across many industries,” said Katie O’Sullivan, Chair of Perkins Coie’s Litigation practice. “Dominique’s addition strengthens our already deep Privacy & Security bench — and given her excellent reputation, we believe she will be a great help to clients nationally and in Los Angeles as they navigate data compliance issues.”

Dominique received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her B.A. from Brown University. Before joining Perkins Coie, she was a partner in Alston & Bird’s Technology & Privacy Team and chair of its AdTech Privacy & Advertising Data Compliance practice.
