Sidley Expands Los Angeles Office with Addition of Investment Funds Partner

Sidley Austin LLP announced today that Timothy A. Spangler has joined the firm in Los Angeles as a partner and member of Sidley’s global Investment Funds, Advisers and Derivatives practice. Mr. Spangler brings extensive experience in advising clients on an array of investment vehicles and related securities and regulatory issues.

Mr. Spangler served as chair of the investment funds group at his prior firm. He has worked on a wide range of funds, including hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds and funds of funds. He also has experience with funds investing in particular countries or sectors across numerous jurisdictions including the U.S., UK, Cayman Islands, Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, Bermuda, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Germany and Ireland. His clients have included the full range of parties associated with funds, among them promoters, managers, advisers and investors. He regularly advises sponsors on the formation, negotiation and structuring of investment vehicles, and on the full spectrum of securities and regulatory issues associated with these transactions. Mr. Spangler also advises on the ongoing compliance obligations of investment management firms under the U.S. Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. While based in primarily Sidley’s Los Angeles office, he will continue to work with clients in the New York and London markets as well.

He is also mentioned in the 2014 edition of the IFLR1000 as a leading practitioner in Investment Funds in the U.S. Additionally, he was recognized in 2013 by Chambers Global as an expert based abroad for Corporate/M&A in the UK, and as a foreign expert for Investment Funds: Hedge Funds in the U.S. Mr. Spangler is a long-standing member of the Private Investment Fund Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
