Land Use Lawyer Robert McMurry Joins Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP in Los Angeles

Land use lawyer Robert “Mac” McMurry has joined Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP (JMBM) as a partner in its Los Angeles office. Previously with Gilchrist Rutter, McMurry brings over 30 years of extensive experience in the entitlement of major land development projects in California, such as Newhall Land & Farming in Santa Clarita Valley, Tejon Ranch in Kern County, Heritage Fields in Irvine, Candlestick Park in San Francisco, and Centennial in Antelope Valley. McMurry has particular expertise in guiding Master Plan Communities from original design to completion, including defending against legal challenges brought by project opponents.

“When it comes to preparing and defending Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs), there is no better lawyer in California nor one more familiar with the intricacies of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) than Mac,” said Ben Reznik, chair of JMBM’s Government, Land Use, Environment and Energy Department. “The depth and quality of JMBM’s land use practice has just been substantially enhanced.”

“JMBM has long had a robust and diverse practice focused on real estate development, environmental regulation, and renewable energy,” said McMurry. “I’m very excited and look forward to working with such an accomplished group of lawyers.”

McMurry earned his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles (1982), an M.S. from Illinois State University (1971) and a B.S. from University of Denver (1970). He was an Adjunct Professor for Loyola Law School from 1984-1990 and is a member of the permanent faculty for the ALI-ABA National Land Use Institute.
