Winston & Strawn Expands Global Transactions Practice With Addition of Prominent Leveraged Finance Partner Monica Barton in London

Winston & Strawn LLP is pleased to announce the addition of leading leveraged and acquisition finance lawyer Monica Barton as partner in the firm’s London office. Monica brings to Winston extensive experience working with global financial institutions, private debt funds and sponsor backed corporates on cross-border financing transactions. Barton comes to the firm from Reed Smith LLP in London.

“Monica’s expertise complements that of the transactions group we brought on in Paris last autumn, and sets us up to provide clients with a solid and fully-integrated leveraged platform across our offices in Europe and the U.K.” said chair of the firm’s Corporate practice, Dominick DeChiara. “We are looking forward to having her on board and know our clients will benefit from her global perspective and capabilities.”

Monica’s practice focuses on acquisition finance, leveraged finance and distressed debt investments. She works with lenders and sponsors throughout Europe and other international jurisdictions on first and second lien, mezzanine, term loan B, leveraged recapitalisations, high yield products and cross border financing. She has worked on the administration of Lehman Brothers and has extensive experience in guiding both private equity sponsors and private debt funds in the restructuring of portfolio companies, including Blackstone, Permira, Terra Firma and Partners Group. In addition, she has worked with a number of debt funds including Alcentra, BlueBay, Terra Firma, Anchorage, Partners Group, GSO and Permira. She has particular expertise in pharma financings and has advised IPF on a number of transactions across Europe.

“I am delighted to join Winston & Strawn and the team in London,” said Monica. “I look forward to using my international network and Winston’s global footprint to assist clients in projects from cross-border acquisition finance transactions to restructuring company portfolios.”

Peter Crowther, Winston’s London managing partner, said: “Monica’s expertise advising global financial institutions on cross-border acquisition and leveraged finance matters will be incredibly valuable to our clients in London and Europe.”

Tom Fitzgerald, chairman of Winston & Strawn, added, “We are committed to growing to meet our clients’ needs across practices, regions and industries. The depth of Monica’s leveraged finance capabilities combined with her unique cross-border experience makes her an important addition to Winston’s transactions group, and further bolsters our ability to provide clients with a seamless global platform for handling their most complex financial matters.”
