International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP announced today that Charles Cooper-Isow will join the firm as a partner in its Private Equity practice. He joins the Firm from Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
Charlie is a highly experienced secondaries lawyer who represents sponsor clients and their portfolio companies on complex liquidity solutions. His practice encompasses the full spectrum of secondaries transactions including GP-led secondaries/continuation fund transactions, preferred equity investments and traditional LP portfolio transactions.
“We are thrilled that Charlie is joining Weil’s secondaries platform as we continue to advise clients in meeting the rising demand for liquidity and in the active management of their portfolios,” said Weil Executive Partner Barry Wolf.
The news follows the recent hire of partner Simon Saitowitz, who returned to Weil a year ago and is widely regarded as one of the most dynamic and influential partners in London’s secondaries market. In January, as part of the strategic growth of the cross-border secondaries platform, Weil also hired secondaries partner Corey Dietrich from Proskauer Rose LLP in New York.
Michael J. Aiello, Chairman of Weil’s Corporate Department, said: “Weil’s cross-border secondaries platform is growing rapidly with innovative lawyers like Charlie strengthening our best-in-class private capital platform in response to client demand for sophisticated secondaries advice and seamless multijurisdictional execution. No firm delivers this at the level Weil does.”
Marco Compagnoni, co-head of Weil’s global Private Equity group added, “We are delighted to be expanding our top-quality platform, with our existing star talent Simon Saitowitz now joined by Charlie, who further deepens our market-leading capability in complex secondaries deals and who strengthens our multidisciplinary Private Equity team, particularly on GP-led work.”
