Taylor Wessing Expands International Disputes and Investigations Group With Another Duo Appointment

Taylor Wessing has expanded their disputes and investigations group with the hire of Richard Viegas. Richard joins as a partner in London after five years at Collyer Bristow, including three years as the firm’s Head of Commercial Disputes. He will be joined by associate Lucy Waddicor.

Richard is a leading international disputes lawyer with significant experience in high-profile litigation. He is widely recognised for his expertise in all aspects of litigation funding, regularly acting for the funders themselves and on a wide array of funded litigation across many sectors.

His financial disputes expertise involves acting for investment and retail banks, hedge funds, asset managers, accountancy firms, family offices and private equity. Richard is known for acting on both corporate and personal insolvency disputes.

Richard’s extensive commercial disputes experience also covers disputes in data protection, and in the pharmaceutical, technology, media, commodities, real estate, and energy sectors.

International Head of Disputes & Investigations Andrew Howell said: “Richard brings with him first-class international expertise in dealing with the most complex commercial and insolvency disputes, and a focus on funded litigation. Richard’s commercial approach complements our own, providing clients with market knowledge and specialist advice across many sectors and jurisdictions. We very much look forward to welcoming Richard, and Lucy, to the team.”

UK Managing Partner Shane Gleghorn said: “We’re seeing an increasing flow of opportunities and demand from clients looking for advisors with a high-degree of expertise in relation to complex cross-border disputes. We continue, therefore, to invest in disputes lawyers who have strong reputations resolving that type of litigation, especially as it pertains to our areas of sector focus. Richard’s appointment is a perfect example of this. He has an excellent reputation in relation to complex litigation and investigations, and brings with him a wealth of experience that will assist our clients.”

Richard and Lucy will join the firm in December. This is the second expansion to the firm’s disputes group in the UK in recent months, following the announcement in September of international arbitration experts Karel Daele and Elizabeth Montpetit joining the firm from Mishcon De Reya.
