Steptoe Expands International Arbitration Practice with New Hire Focused on International and UK Disputes, Jonathon Egerton-Peters

Steptoe & Johnson today announced the expansion of its international arbitration practice with the addition in its London office of Jonathon Egerton-Peters. Jonathon’s arrival continues the steady growth of the Steptoe’s London international arbitration team, which added Christophe Bondy and Juliya Arbisman in recent years and promoted Tom Innes to partner last year. Egerton-Peters arrives from the London office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP

“Jonathon’s well-rounded and considerable experience in international commercial arbitration and litigation makes him a natural fit as part of our growing team in London and beyond,” said UK managing partner Matthew Farmer. “His focus on commercial arbitration and litigation, in addition to areas including tax controversy, EU competition and state aid, and contentious restructuring, will be invaluable to our clients.”

Jonathon’s practice focuses on the resolution of high-stakes and complex disputes for many of the world’s leading corporations, investors, entrepreneurs, and sovereigns. His experience spans a range of industry sectors, including finance and banking, energy, shipping, real estate, airline, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications. Jonathon is co-editor of Arbitration World (published by Sweet & Maxwell), one of the leading texts in international arbitration, and he writes and lectures frequently on a range of legal topics. He is consistently ranked as a Rising Star and Future Leader by The Legal 500 UK and Who’s Who Legal.

Steptoe has a well-established global arbitration practice. It is currently advising the European Union on its US$10 billion Nord Stream 2 dispute, representing Koch Supply & Trading, LP (KS&T) and Koch Industries, Inc. in a NAFTA Chapter Eleven claim against the Government of Canada and representing West African Aquaculture in an ICSID arbitration brought pursuant to The Gambia’s national law on international investment.

Jonathon added: “Steptoe is a world-leading international law firm and one of the few in London that conducts its own advocacy in arbitration and court disputes. As a barrister, this made joining Steptoe a natural next step in expanding my offerings for clients and contributing to the future growth and success of such a fantastic team.”
