McDermott Further Strengthens London Transactions Practice With Another Private Equity Partner

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery welcomes Fatema Orjela as a partner in its Transactions Practice Group in London. Fatema’s practice focuses on private equity transactions and related advisory matters. Orjela joins McDermott from Sidley Austin LLP.

“We have recently expanded our transactions practice in London with M&A hires Graham White, Peter Lu and Michal Berkner but we want to take our private equity offering to the next level,” said Harris Siskind, global head of McDermott’s Transactions Practice Group. “Fatema is a fantastic addition to the practice and Firm. She has an outstanding reputation in the market, synergistic client relationships and is an excellent cultural fit with our values.”

Fatema is an award-winning private equity lawyer who provides strategic counsel to European and US private equity sponsors. She has pan-European cross sector experience in a variety of corporate transactions, including leveraged buyouts, strategic mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, structured and minority equity investments, equity and debt restructurings, and management equity plans.

Fatema is ranked in Chambers UK 2024 (Private Equity: Buyouts: 500 million and above) and in The Legal 500 UK 2024 (Private Equity: Transactions – Mid-Market Deals). Additionally, Fatema was named Private Equity Lawyer of the Year by the Women in Business Law Awards EMEA 2023.

“McDermott understands the nature and needs of private equity sponsors at its core, is fiercely ambitious in terms of its international standing and has experienced exceptional multi-year growth to date. It is a privilege to join at this stage in the trajectory and I am excited to harness the Firm’s strong global private equity expertise across its broad footprint in the US and Europe for the benefit of my clients,” said Fatema. “I also look forward to joining forces with my former colleague Graham White again, whose leadership I’ve historically thrived under.”

“Fatema is an exceptional boost to the London team,” said Hamid Yunis, managing partner of McDermott’s London office. “She is bright, dynamic and will work well in our collaborative culture with colleagues in London and across the globe. She also brings terrific client relationships.”
