McDermott Boosts Transactions Practice with New Real Estate Finance Partner in London

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to welcome partner Usman Khan to our Transactions Practice Group in London. Khan joins McDermott from Kirkland & Ellis in London.

“Expanding the Firm’s real estate offerings in London, a key sector hub, is a strategic investment in our full-service global real estate platform,” said Harris Siskind, global head of the Transactions Practice Group. “Usman brings significant experience advising lenders, private equity funds and real estate investment companies, which complements our wider practice and, in particular, adds value to our clients with real estate investments in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.”

Usman focuses on domestic and international banking and finance, with a focus on real estate finance including senior and mezzanine investment, hotel financing, development financings, repurchase agreements, loan-on-loan financings, and Shariah-compliant financings. In addition, he advises on international matters in the Middle East and emerging markets.

He acts on behalf of banking institutions, private equity sponsors, credit funds, sovereign wealth funds and other real estate investors.

“We are excited to welcome Usman to our office,” said Hamid Yunis, managing partner of the London office. “He is an accomplished lawyer with an impressive track record and is a great fit with our culture – his practice provides terrific synergies with our private equity, finance and real estate groups both in London and across our international network.”

“McDermott has a strong reputation in the global legal market, an excellent international platform and an established US and European real estate offering,” Usman said. “I very much look forward to working with my new colleagues in the UK and across the Firm, and am excited to broaden the Firm’s real estate offering.”

Usman’s appointment complements recent real estate additions, including Elena Otero (Miami); David Herman, Billy Hildbold and Megan Vallerie (New York); and Johannes Honzen (Frankfurt.)
