Leading Capital Markets Partner Joins Cooley

Prominent capital markets lawyer Claire Keast-Butler has joined Cooley as a partner in London. She arrives from the London office of Latham & Watkins.

“Claire is highly respected for her deep experience advising both issuers and underwriters on UK equity capital markets transactions, as well as on primary or secondary Nasdaq and NYSE listings by English and European companies,” said Justin Stock, managing partner of Cooley’s London office. “Her strengths are a wonderful addition to our thriving London capital markets practice, which has been on a remarkable ascent since the office opened in 2015 and undertook 15 IPOs and secondary offerings last year alone. We are thrilled to welcome Claire to the team.”

Keast-Butler’s practice focuses on capital markets transactions. She represents issuers, investment banks and investors on initial public offerings and secondary offerings. She also regularly advises listed companies on corporate and securities law matters and corporate governance, and has considerable experience in public and private mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters.

“Cooley’s platform offers great opportunities for my practice,” said Keast-Butler. “I have long been impressed by the firm’s capital markets work in the UK and US. I am looking forward to collaborating closely with my new colleagues to contribute to the team’s continued success and growth.”

Keast-Butler, who is qualified in England and Wales, was admitted as a solicitor in 2002 after earning her LLB from University College London and her Legal Practice Course diploma from the College of Law, London. She was formerly co-chair of Latham & Watkins’ Women Enriching Business committee, which aims to promote women through professional development, mentoring and networking.

Cooley’s capital markets practice has consistently earned elite rankings and acclaim. It has been the #1 law firm advising on technology and life sciences IPOs since 2013 and the #1 law firm for VC-backed IPOs across all industries for the last 15 years, according to IPO Vital Signs and PitchBook. Moreover, Cooley is one of the top firms working on global capital markets transactions for non-US issuers. In June, the Transatlantic Legal Awards named Cooley its Capital Markets Team of the Year. Since launching in London in 2015, Cooley has twice been named London Office of the Year at the British Legal Awards.
