K&L Gates Expands Energy Practice with Addition of London Disputes Partner

The London office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP has added John Gilbert as a partner in the firm’s energy and international arbitration practices. He joins K&L Gates from Pinsent Masons LLP in London, and previously was a member of the dispute resolution team at BP — one of the world’s leading oil and gas companies — where he handled global commercial disputes.

Gilbert’s experience includes matters relating to oil and gas exploration and production, gas sales agreements, the construction and functioning of pipelines and refining operations, and marketing. He has also advised on power generation and transmission, including from renewable sources. He has particular experience with international commercial and investment treaty arbitration, having advised on proceedings before the major arbitral institutions.

Gilbert stated: “I am excited by the opportunity presented by K&L Gates’ global footprint, which is ideally suited to the international nature of my practice.”

“With price pressure affecting the oil & gas industry, we have seen increased demand for dispute resolution advice,” said Tony Griffiths, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ London office. “John’s arrival further augments our practice.”

Gilbert joins a growing oil & gas practice that represents clients including international and national oil companies, foreign sovereigns, and state-owned enterprises.
