Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its financial services regulatory capabilities with the addition of James Greig as a partner in London.
“The volume and pace of regulatory change since the financial crash remains substantial, and we continue to experience strong and growing client demand for regulatory advice in the UK and EU across all areas of our practice, including capital markets, corporate, private equity, banking, M&A and restructuring matters,” said partner Kevin Petrasic, head of White & Case’s Global Financial Institutions Advisory (FIA) Practice.
“The compliance burden and level of regulatory scrutiny imposed on financial institutions is higher than ever before and ‘Brexit’ will undoubtedly increase the demand for complex regulatory work in London in the years ahead,” said Petrasic. “With the addition of James to our London team, we have another experienced and highly-regarded senior lawyer to help anchor our EMEA practice, and an outstanding addition to our Global FIA team to help us address the growing demand from our global financial clients for cross-border regulatory and legal advisory services.”
The addition of Greig supports the Firm’s strategic focus on profitable growth in London and in the global financial institutions industry. Greig arrives from BNY Mellon, where he was EMEA Regulatory Counsel and Head of the Office of Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs, advising on legal issues arising from all EMEA regulatory matters and leading the bank’s EMEA regulatory engagement and advocacy across the range of regulatory initiatives relating to operations in Europe and the Middle East. Prior to BNY Mellon, he was a partner in private practice with PwC and WilmerHale.
“James has an intimate understanding of the challenges facing banks combined with a unique grasp of the regulatory environments in the US, the UK and across EMEA,” said White & Case partner Stuart Willey, who leads the Firm’s financial regulatory practice in London. “He has a very strong reputation in the market and brings a wealth of in-house and private practice experience, which will help ensure our clients continue to receive sophisticated advice and support on their most complex and important matters.”
White & Case also provides its clients with integrated support across non-contentious financial regulation and white collar/investigations, with Greig’s arrival strengthening this complementary service alongside partner Jonathan Pickworth, who leads the Firm’s white collar team in London.
Oliver Brettle, member of the Firm’s Executive Committee and executive partner in London, said: “White & Case has the unique combination of strength in the US, London and Europe and is one of the very few global law firms to offer a fully integrated US-UK-European regulatory practice. The addition of James, a lawyer of the highest calibre, will allow us to leverage this capability further for the benefit of our clients.”
White & Case has more than 30 lawyers in its Global Financial Institutions Advisory Practice based in the Firm’s offices across the Americas, Europe and Asia.
