Greenberg Traurig Grows Banking & Financial Services Practice with Addition of Helena Nathanson in London

Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP continues to grow its Banking & Financial Services Practice and its Restructuring & Bankruptcy Practice as it welcomes Shareholder Helena Nathanson to the London office. The addition of Nathanson, who was formerly joint head of banking for Dorsey & Whitney LLP and head of the European Corporate Trust Group at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, is an integral part of Greenberg Traurig’s continued strategic expansion of its London office.

“We are very pleased to welcome Helena to our London office. She is not only highly regarded in London, with a strong client following, but has historically worked extensively with Greenberg Traurig shareholders across the United States – particularly in the bankruptcy and restructuring areas. She has a resilient practice consistent with GT colleagues, who themselves are leaders in corporate trust work in the United States, and is a welcome complement to our recent top level London additions in litigation, especially relating to financial institutions, as well as restructurings and insolvencies,” said Richard A. Rosenbaum, executive chairman of Greenberg Traurig. “With the addition of Helena, who is among the leading advisors to London’s corporate trust houses, we have further rounded out our London capabilities with a delightful individual entirely suited to our culture. We are even more ready for whichever way markets may turn in these uncertain times.”

During this year, Greenberg Traurig’s London office has added several lawyers in its Global Litigation Practice and Financial Services Practice including Shareholders Masoud Zabeti and Mohammed Khamisa QC, Of Counsel Ian Bean, and Senior Associate Katharine Bond. All joined from Mishcon de Reya, where Zabeti was former head of the Finance and Banking Disputes Group, Khamisa was a partner, and Bean and Bond were managing associates.

The firm’s Restructuring & Bankruptcy Practice has also expanded, including the additions of Shareholder Ian Jack, former co-head of Global Restructuring & Insolvency at Baker & McKenzie and leader of its London practice, and Senior Associate Rupert Cheetham, also from Baker & McKenzie’s London office.

“Helena’s exceptional skills and dedication to her clients will enhance our existing group of legal talent in London, as well as our Global Corporate Practice – both of which continue to grow even amidst the current challenges of a global pandemic,” said Fiona Adams, managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s London office and co-chair of the firm’s Global Corporate Practice.

Nathanson’s practice is in the areas of Structured Finance, Capital Markets, and all secured and unsecured lending transactions, with a particular focus on the Corporate Trustees and Agents. She has wide-ranging experience handling all roles of a Trustee and any Agent within restructurings and bankruptcies.
Nathanson has represented the majority of the corporate trust houses in London in connection with a wide variety of transactions, including numerous high yield bond issuances, exchange traded products platforms, asset backed commercial paper programmes and many defaulting securitisations with varying underlying assets. She is recognised in Chambers UK as a specialist in Capital Markets and recommended in Legal 500.

“I am looking forward to joining the team at Greenberg Traurig and representing the firm’s clients during these unique times, with the goal of helping them navigate transactions of all degrees of complexity,” said Nathanson, who also has represented corporate trustees in connection with various Schemes of Arrangement and has recently been involved in restructurings, consent solicitations and a variety of amendments relating to debt reflecting the current marketplace.

Nathanson, who is admitted to practice as a solicitor in England and Wales, is fluent in French, German, Finnish, and Swedish. She received her LLB Bachelor of Arts and Legal Practical Course degrees from Thames Valley University.
