Global Financial Restructuring Leader Sam Brodie Rejoins Akin Gump, Adding Further Depth to Practice in London

Akin Gump today announced that global financial restructuring leader Sam Brodie has rejoined the firm as a partner in its financial restructuring practice in London. Brodie was a partner at Akin Gump from 2018 to 2021, and his return strengthens the firm’s leading financial restructuring practice in London as global macroeconomic trends increasingly impact clients across all industries. Brodie rejoins the firm from Shearman & Sterling LLP.

Brodie adds a highly respected practice advising creditors, debtors and other stakeholders on complex financial restructurings and workouts of distressed bonds, securitisations, private placement notes and loans. He also advises hedge funds and credit funds on investments and strategic opportunities in distressed debt transactions. His depth of knowledge and experience of finance and restructuring law complements that of Akin Gump’s special situations practice in London.

“The depth of knowledge in the firm’s London financial restructuring team and the bench strength in the practice has made them the go-to law firm for buy-side and credit investors for a number of years,” said Brodie about his return to the firm. “I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to continue to serve our clients at the very highest level.”

“The financial market is rapidly evolving in response to macroeconomic trends, and our clients increasingly need guidance that is based on a sophisticated understanding of those trends,” commented Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “Sam is a known leader—both among our partnership and our clients—and we are pleased to welcome him back to the Akin Gump family.”

Financial restructuring partner Barry Russell added, “We are delighted Sam is rejoining the London office. His broad and flexible skill set brings value to the full gamut of the firm’s financial restructuring practice. Sam will be particularly instrumental in adding additional depth and breadth to Akin Gump’s special situations practice.”
