Clyde & Co Boosts Global Cyber Offering Through Partner Hire

Global law firm Clyde & Co has today announced the hire of Ian Birdsey as a partner in London. He joins as part of the firm’s ongoing expansion and development of its global cyber risk offering. Ian joins from Pinsent Masons, where he was Global Head of Cyber and led the development of the firm’s practice over eight years.

A cyber specialist with more than a decade’s experience managing cyber matters, Ian advises corporate, SME and insurer clients to manage domestic and international incidents, claims, investigations and subsequent litigation. In addition, Ian helps clients to become more cyber resilient and has particular expertise in data protection and broader Technology, Media and Telecommunications disputes. He will be joined from Pinsent Masons by Seaton Gordon.

Clyde & Co Senior Partner Peter Hirst says: “Cyber is one of the most dynamic areas of the law thanks to regulatory, technological and social developments around data security, privacy, and corporate risk. The cyber threat organisations face and the impact it can have is rapidly evolving and intensifying and is a significant board level issue. As such our strategy is to provide the integrated and global ‘one stop shop’ cyber offering our clients need.

“As a leader in his field, Ian brings with him a wealth of expertise that will help us achieve our ambitions in this space.”

Clyde & Co’s global cyber practice provides an end-to-end cyber risk solution to clients. From pre-incident readiness and incident response through to regulatory investigations, proceedings, third party claims (including group litigation) and recoveries, the team assists corporate clients, insurers, insureds and brokers across the full cyber lifecycle. The cyber team has advised on over 2,000 cyber incidents and data breaches, ranging from small incidents through to some of the largest, most high profile, multi-jurisdictional incidents to date.

Ian Birdsey comments: “I am excited to be joining a market-leading cyber practice and to be working alongside such a strong global team whose focus is on providing a unique and holistic approach to the management of cyber risk, wherever clients operate. The cyber market is extremely dynamic but also at a critical point in its development with the number of incidents, costs and liability risk increasing exponentially.

“In this market it is important to continually evolve and innovate to develop new solutions for clients. The firm’s extensive experience, global footprint and the use of innovative technologies enables the team to provide a standout offering in the market. I am looking forward to playing my part in helping achieve the firm’s ambitions in this space.”
