Baker Botts Continues London Growth with Preeminent Energy M&A Partner Team

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, has strengthened its Energy and M&A capabilities with the addition of partners Alex Msimang and Nadine Amr. Both join from Vinson & Elkins, bringing extensive experience in energy M&A, joint ventures and project development at a time of heightened demand for cross-border energy expertise.

Msimang served as managing partner of Vinson & Elkins’ London office for 13 years, developing a reputation for work on high-profile oil and gas deals and his ability to navigate complex regulatory environments. He brings more than 30 years of global energy M&A experience, focusing on transactions across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Amr is well-known in the energy industry and focuses on cross-border energy M&A, joint ventures and project development, having advised on transactions that include many multi-billion dollar deals in Latin America, Nigeria and across the rest of Africa. Her addition bolsters the Firm’s deep upstream M&A experience.

The hires continue Baker Botts’ strong momentum in London, where the Firm has added seven partners in 2025. Amr and Msimang join former Vinson & Elkins colleagues Alistair Wishart and Nabil Khodadad, as well as Patrick Lyons and Jennifer Rees from Dechert and Mark Castillo-Bernaus from White & Case.

“Our record London growth reflects one thing—client demand,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner Danny David. “London is where we are seeing some of our strongest momentum. It continues to be a hub for some of the world’s most complex energy and infrastructure deals, and bringing on Nadine and Alex further strengthens our ability to meet the moment.”

“Alex’s decades of market leadership and Nadine’s work in complex upstream M&A and development matters are a powerful combination,” said firmwide Global Projects Chair Jason Bennett. “Their arrival reflects our focus on growth in our global energy platform to expand our ability to serve energy clients in their largest transactions and most critical upstream, midstream, and energy transition investments.”

“Baker Botts is doing market-shaping work in energy M&A, and I’m excited to contribute to that alongside a team with such a strong reputation,” Amr added. “The Firm’s platform, global footprint and collaborative culture provide exactly what clients need in an evolving energy landscape.”

“Baker Botts’ colossal strength in complex energy transactions and its expanding international footprint make this an ideal opportunity,” Msimang said. “I look forward to working with colleagues across the Firm’s global offices to serve clients on their most sophisticated deals.”
