Baker Botts Continues London Growth with Addition of Leading Corporate Partner

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international law firm, today announced that Nigel Stacey has joined the firm’s Corporate Department as a partner. He will be based in the London office, where he will focus on private and public mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Stacey comes to the firm from Gibson Dunn.

“We continue to attract premier talent to the firm and Nigel’s appointment further demonstrates our commitment to invest in the expansion of our London office, a critical element to the firm’s growth strategy. Nigel is an outstanding lawyer with a market-leading corporate finance and public M&A practice, and he will add tremendous bench strength to our cross-border client capabilities,” said John Martin, Managing Partner of Baker Botts.
The appointment of Mr. Stacey comes on the heels of strategic investments in London, where the firm recently announced moving its office from 41 Lothbury to 20 Fenchurch Street around Q2 2021. Additionally, the firm added corporate TMT partner Stuart Blythe from CMS at the start of the year and promoted London senior associate, Rob Butler, to partner bringing the total number of partners in the London office to 22.

“Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, we remain focused on expanding our scale and offering in London to meet client demands. Nigel provides a weighty addition to our corporate transactional capabilities, with his deep corporate finance skills and impressive track record of top tier M&A work. We are delighted to welcome Nigel to the firm. He will help further accelerate our growth in London,” said Mark Rowley, Partner-in-Charge of London and the Middle East at Baker Botts.

Mr. Stacey has more than 20 years’ experience in mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance, acting for major corporate clients on a wide range of public and private transactions and advisory matters across numerous sectors including TMT and life sciences. He has acted on some of the UK’s most high-profile transactions, and on deals with an aggregate value in excess of $600 billion.

Mr. Stacey has earned numerous recognitions for his work. He is recommended by The Legal 500 UK as “a real star” and is ranked as “highly regarded” in IFLR1000 2020 for Capital Markets: Equity, M&A and Private Equity. In addition, Mr. Stacey and his team were named “Corporate Team of the Year” at the Legal Business Awards in 2019 and have again been nominated for the Award in 2020.

“The London legal market is in a dynamic state and I believe that Baker Botts is very well placed to offer clients a truly transatlantic service due to its international reach and deep sector expertise in technology and energy. I am thrilled to be joining Baker Botts at this exciting stage of growth at the firm, and I look forward to working with the team in London and across the firm,” said Mr. Stacey.
