Manatt Adds Former FCC Enforcement Bureau Chief Of Staff In Washington, D.C.

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, announced that Katherine Winfree has joined the Washington, D.C. office as a partner in the State Attorneys General practice group. Winfree previously served as chief of staff for the Federal Communications Commission’s Enforcement Bureau.

With more than 30 years of government experience, Winfree has served in multiple high-level roles in state and federal government. As chief of staff in the Enforcement Bureau of the FCC, she was a key policy advisor to the bureau chief and provided oversight and guidance on a broad array of projects relating to communications and technology law and regulation. She previously served as the chief deputy attorney general for the state of Maryland, the second-highest law enforcement officer in the state, where she was responsible for the supervision of 32 divisions, including antitrust, consumer protection, criminal, environment, public safety and transportation. Winfree also served as a federal and state prosecutor, including 19 years as an assistant United States attorney in the District of Columbia, where she tried several high-profile cases. More >>

Seven Attorneys Join Davis Wright Tremaine LLP in Seattle and Anchorage, Enhancing the Firm’s Government Contracting, Litigation, and Construction Practices

Seven attorneys joined Davis Wright Tremaine LLP (DWT) today as members of the firm’s government contracting, litigation and construction practices. Vinson & Elkins Advises on $3.2 Billion Take-Private of Eurasia Drilling Company Limited

Eurasia Drilling Company Limited (EDC) announced on 20 January 2015 that it has agreed with members of its management team the terms of a merger between EDC and EDC Acquisition Company Limited, which will result in EDC being delisted from the London Stock Exchange and its minority shareholders being paid US$22 per Global Depositary Receipt. The transaction values EDC at approximately US$3.2 billion. Conditional on the merger taking place, affiliates of Schlumberger Limited have agreed to buy approximately 45.65 percent of the shares in EDC, with an option to buy the balance of the EDC shares in the future. The deal is subject to a number of conditions and is expected to close in the second half of February 2015. More >>
