NY IP Partner’s Lateral Move

Margaret B. Brivanlou, a patent prosecution specialist who focuses on the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, has left Jones Day. She joined Jones Day when that firm acquired most of the lawyers of now-defunct IP boutique Pennie & Edmonds in 2003. Ms. Brivanlou joins the NY team of King & Spaulding, the Atlanta-based firm with almost 200 lawyers in its New York office and over 800 worldwide.

Two New Litigators at Fulbright & Jaworski

Fulbright & Jaworski has gained two new litigators from Winston & Strawn. Daniel R. Chicago Merger

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom is representing the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in its $8 billion acquisition of the Chicago Board of Trade, which is being advised by Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw. Subject to shareholder and regulatory approval, this merger would create the largest financial market in the world if it goes through.

East Coast Firms Set to Merge

Dreier Looks to Los Angeles

Continuing its ambitious expansionary path, New York’s Dreier has set another goal: Los Angeles. In a merger set to go through by January 1, Dreier looks to pick up thirty attorneys and an office from L.A. firm Alschuler Grossman Stein & Kahan, including name partners Stanton Stein and Robert Kahan. Head-man Marc Dreier expects the office to house 100 attorneys by next year.

White and Case Litigation Partners on the Move

Four litigation partners have left White & Case’s New York office for new jobs at Linklaters, shortly to be joined by 12 additional associates. Possible Chicago Merger for Reed Smith

Reed Smith is in talks with Chicago firm Sachnoff & Weaver over a possible merger. Based in Pittsburgh, Reed Smith is looking to continue the expansionary trend it has set over the past several years. The recent merger with London-based Richards Butler is effective as of January 1st, and will bring the firm to a total of 1,300 lawyers. Reed Smith currently has 18 offices, including Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
