Duane Morris Attracts Partners from Buchanan Ingersoll

The San Diego office of Duane Morris has been bolstered by a few recent additions. A three-person team of partners focusing on products liability defense litigation–Karen Crawford, Patricia Hollenbeck, and John Cooley–has left Buchanan Ingersoll to join Duane Morris. Additionally, the firm and Buchanan Ingersoll IP partner Bradford Duft have come to terms, Acording to sources, many other attorneys are mulling offers. Duane Morris, Chairman Sheldon Bonovitz believes this expansion will continue, as the firm will “focus on attracting talented lawyers in San Diego and throughout the country.” Duane Morris now employs 20 attorneys in San Diego, while Buchanan Ingersoll is left with 8.

Texas Lawyer Reports Rising Salaries for all Texas Firms

In a recent survey of Texas firms, Texas Lawyer found an increase in salaries across the board for 2006. On average, first-years are making 4.7% more in 2006 than 2005, with fourth-years at 9.3% and seventh-years at 5.1% more respectively. In firms employing over 100 attorneys, first-years have seen a 16.4% salary increase.

DLA Piper Opens Atlanta Office

DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary will open its new Atlanta office on Monday with an initial staff of 12 attorneys. The firm expects the office to act as a hub for its southeastern activities and plans to expand to 50 attorneys by the end of this year. DLA Piper currently employs 3,100 lawyers worldwide. Texas Firms Report Slight Increase in Gross Revenue for 2005

Texas Lawyer’s survey of the 25 top-grossing firms in Texas showed a 2.3% increase in gross revenues overall for 2005 over 2004. Of these firms, 16 reported an increase for 2005; the other 9 reported a decrease. Akin Gump comes in as the highest-grossing of all Texas firms, but V&E, Thompson & Knight, and Porter Hedges reported the greatest percentage increase in gross revenues for the year. More Raises for Texas Firms

Three more major Texas firms have announced raises for associates at all experience levels. Dallas firm Winstead, Sechrest & Minick has bumped first-years to $135,00 with a $5,000 potential bonus and Houston-based Fulbright & Jaworski’s first-years will earn $140,000. Lateral Moves on the Rise in Texas

2005 saw a 12.93 percent increase in lateral hiring in Texas over the previous year, according to Texas Lawyer’s recent study of 18 of the state’s largest firms.
