Brian M. Rothery has joined Stroock & Stroock & Lavan’s Intellectual Property Practice Group as partner. Rothery was formerly a partner at Jones Day; prior to Jones Day he was a partner with Pennie & Edmonds. His practice handles litigation for federal patent and trademark claims, as well as state unfair competition and business tort claims. Stroock handles all aspects of intellectual property law and provides guidance to a variety of clients in the U.S. and overseas.

Latham & Watkins is one of several LA firms with strong 2006 numbers. The firm’s revenues rose by 15 per cent from $1.412 billion to $1.624 billion. Partner profits also increased by 16 per cent. Last year was also one of expansion for Latham, as the firm opened offices in Madrid and Barcelona and also added two partners to its German branch. LA firms Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker and Gibson Dunn & Crutcher also reported good years.

Arriving in 2002, Perkins Coie has slowly built its Chicago office to 65 attorneys. Though still less than half the size of Latham & Watkins’ Chicago office, the Seattle-based firm is making steps to becoming a top player in the Windy City. Its most recent hires include two associates from Jenner & Block, as well as a patent litigator from Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw. Looking to expand, the firm hopes to grow to over 100 lawyers in the next 18 months.

Thanks to agressive lateral hiring, Linklater’s banking practice has grown from 100 associates and 16 partners at the beginning of the decade to 430 lawyers and 26 partners. The firm gained several attorneys from Wilde Sapte, as well as from Clifford Chance and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
