A survey conducted recently concluded that on average, an attorney uses about 100,000 sheets a year. Divided by an assumed 2,000 hour work year, that breaks down to 50 pages an hour! The “climate challenge”, proposed by members from both the American Bar Association and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The aim of the challenge is to limit law firm’s environmental impact on the environment. The first order of business is to limit the amount of paper used. But in order to do so, the mindset must change. Instead of printing drafts, contracts, pleadings, bulletins, and memos (which on paper, are easily taken home, on the bus, etc), the computer must usurp power. Not only will becoming greener help the environment, it can also help the business. Being a green firm can attract green clients. It can also save the company money on energy, paper, ink, etc.

In response to the many who have left Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner, the firm has announced its desire to merge with another firm. Thelen reportedly has yet to advance beyond this step 1 of acknowledgment, and has yet to make any further steps. Curtis Mallet-Prevost Colt & Mosle has made a big move in Latin America by making an alliance with the native firm of Fernandez Quiroga Ayarragaray & Ocampo. But, the firm is nowhere new to the area. Curtis has advised clients in Latin America for over a century and had an office in Buenos Aires in the 1920s. Curtis currently has five offices in the US, and four in Europe.

The Greenberg Traurig Tampa office boosts its litigation practice with the addition of two new associates, Richard J. Mockler and Don Crawford. Mockler joins Greenberg from Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP and prior to that, Holland and Knight. Crawford previously practiced at Paul Hastings.
