Jones Day has lost a partner in Tokyo. Tadakatsu Sano resigned for the firm two weeks ago because he is set to be the newest chief executive assistant to Yukio Hatoyama , Japan’s new Prime Minister. Sano joined Jones Day three years ago. Prior to that, he was vice minister for international affairs in Japan’s Ministry of Economy, trade, and Industry.

Kirkland & Ellis has announced that the firm is launching a banking practice. Edwin del Hierro is leaving Barack Ferrazzano Kirschbaum & Nagelberg to join Kirkland & Ellis and run the new practice. Patton Boggs has hired the former chair of the Federal Communications Commission, Kevin Martin. Martin will start in the beginning of October as co-chair of the telecommunications policy practice. He was made chairman of the FCC in 2005 and left in January of this year.
